My work consists of contradictions and contrasts. Being of both Peruvian and German descent, I am a product of contrasting cultures myself: from a Peruvian grandmother littering me with hugs and stuffed animals, to a reserved German grandfather teaching me the merits of discipline.

My fascination with contrast developed further when I started suffering heavy migraines, forcing me to deal with contrasting extremities. As a coping mechanism, looking for ways to give me peace and quiet, I started making collages, cutting folds out from fashion magazines.

During my art studies at Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam and Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, I further developed this taste for combining old and new techniques.

With the 'Folds' I make use of the classical ‘Trompe l’oeil’* technique, where I play with your perception and confusion because of the optical illusion.

'Folds' they are almost everywhere, a napkin on the table, the clothing you wear, or a bag floating in the wind. It draws my attention, it makes me curious and I can get lost in it.

I recognize the beauty of them: the unexpected compositions and the simple beauty of random folds. These pure forms I like to isolate and translate into my rugs.

My new series of Rugs & Wall Hangings are inspired by folds and wrinkles. They are colorful and are an absolute eye-catcher. I see people walking around them looking at them from different angles, curious and surprised.

My rugs are special with their irregular edges. I play with their multifunctional use: you either hang them on your wall as a piece of art or you integrate them as an art carpet. Whatever your choice is, this piece of art will enrich your interior.

*Trompe l'oeil: French for “deceive the eye”, is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions.
